4 Tips on Choosing the Perfect Getting Ready Room

When it comes to choosing the space you’ll be getting ready in on your big day, there are a few things to consider!

Natural Light

The MOST important thing to look for when searching for a getting ready location, is natural light! This makes a WORLD of difference in your images! Large windows create soft natural light which is perfect for when you put your dress on.

Bonus points if the space has light colored walls/neutral backgrounds. Light colored neutral walls and natural light allow your images to remain pure and bright! When the light from a window enters your getting ready room, the walls and ceiling act like a giant reflector. In this situation, colorful or dark walls are not ideal. If you had a orange wall in your getting ready space, orange would reflect onto everything in the room and create an orange hue on your getting ready images.

Keep It Tidy

I recommend finding a space that has clean walls, isn’t crammed with furniture, and has little to no clutter. Designate a corner or closet for all of the bags and clutter to go. Preferably away from the window area. We don’t want any distractions in the background of your photos!

Wedding Venue, Air BnB or Hotel

Your wedding venue is the most ideal getting ready location! Getting ready at your venue eliminates transportation and unnecessary travel time.

If your wedding venue doesn’t have an ideal getting ready space for brides and grooms, I suggest booking a nearby Air BnB or Hotel Suite.

Recently, more brides are opting to rent an Air BnB property as opposed to renting a hotel. With an abundance of options, you have more freedom to choose a space that fits your wedding style.

Most hotel rooms can be too small for more than a few people at a time. Whether you have three people in your bridal party or eight, I highly recommend selecting a getting ready space that has a lot of space. Not only will all of your hair/makeup artists be setting up there, but all of your bridesmaids will be there, potentially your mom and soon-to-be mother-in-law, *and* all of their belongings.

Don’t Forget About The Groom

While the bridal suite is the obvious priority, don’t forget about the groom’s getting ready space! He needs everything we’ve mentioned above as well! The getting ready images will also look more cohesive if you are able to get ready in the same location/property!

Lastly, choosing a getting-ready space doesn’t have to be an overwhelming part of your planning process. Just think whitewindows and plenty of blank space!
